Questions about joining

BoardGameLink is open to professionals active in the board game industry. This includes publishers, game designers, illustrators, manufacturers, translators, content creators, reviewers, photographers and many other professionals involved in bringing board games to market.

For some roles, such as freelancers or independent professionals, the company name field is optional. If this applies to your role, you can simply leave the company name field empty and enter your personal name instead. In that case, your personal name will be used as the name of your profile on BoardGameLink, and your profile will appear in the directory under that name. Please note that this is only possible for roles where a company name is not required. For roles that represent a company (such as publishers or manufacturers), the company name field is mandatory.

Yes, you can choose multiple roles if they reflect the different services or activities you offer in the industry. For example, you might be both an illustrator and graphic designer, or both a photographer and content creator. In that case, you can simply select multiple roles in the category selection during sign-up. The only exception is Board Game Designer and Publisher. These two roles cannot be selected together, because they represent different positions in the publishing process. The reason for this is explained in the next question.

Publisher
Choose this if your company publishes games and brings them to market. This includes indie publishers, publishing studios, and established publishing labels of any size. Even if you are also the designer of a game, you should choose Publisher if your company is the one publishing the game. On BoardGameLink you should not select both roles for the same activity. If the games you create are published by your own company, your role on the platform is Publisher. Publishers can add games they publish and may use BoardGameLink to find licensing partners in other countries.

Board Game Designer
Choose this if you create games and are looking for a publisher to publish them. Designers can add unpublished games for which they are seeking a publishing partner. If a game has already been published by another company, it can only be listed by the publisher, since they control the publishing rights for that title.

In short: Choose Publisher if your company publishes the games. Choose Board Game Designer if you have unpublished games and are looking for a publisher.

No. If you only distribute your own games, choose Publisher. Distributor accounts are for companies that distribute, warehouse or represent titles from other publishers.

Yes. If your business evolves or you start offering additional services, you can request a role change from your dashboard. All role changes are reviewed by BoardGameLink to help keep profiles accurate and relevant.

Free memberships help you showcase your work, get discovered by the industry and respond to opportunities.

Premium memberships are designed for members who want to actively grow their business. Premium members can send Business Inquiries, post unlimited opportunities and build new industry connections.

BoardGameLink offers monthly and yearly memberships. Memberships renew automatically and can be cancelled at any time from your account settings.

We do not charge commissions, success fees or transaction fees on collaborations, licensing agreements or business deals made through the platform. Available plans and pricing can be viewed in your dashboard.

Yes. Many professionals operate multiple companies, brands or business entities. BoardGameLink allows you to manage them from a single account without needing separate logins.
